A Colloquia on Science Diplomacy organized by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the International Organizations and Foreign Diplomatic Missions in Italy, promotes the values of Diplomacy and Science in international relations as fundamental principles to be pursued in the modus operandi and the modus vivendi of modern society.
The Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei is pleased to announce the Special Event, “Fraternity, Integral Ecology and COVID-19. The Role of Diplomacy and Science” by H.E. Most Rev. Msgr. Paul Richard Gallagher, Holy See Secretary for Relations with States, which will take place at the Colloquia on November 23rd, 2020, at 4 pm.
The world has been shaken by the crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic. At this difficult time, which continues to change the societies in which we live, we are called to care for one another and to avoid closing in on ourselves. Indeed, this crisis makes evident the importance of the concepts of fraternity and integral ecology, both outlined in the last two Encyclical Letters of Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti on fraternity and social friendship, and Laudato sì on care for our common home. Seriously facing the causes of this crisis will require a real change of direction involving all of society, and, in particular, the scientific and diplomatic communities, in adopting an integral vision that is capable of promoting a interdisciplinary dialogue to foster trust and to develop common good.
The Lectio Magistralis of H.E. Most Rev. Msgr. Paul Richard Gallagher will be followed by a Round Table, moderated by Prof. Wolfango Plastino, Chair of the Colloquia on Science Diplomacy, which will be attended by Prof. Marcia McNutt, President of the United States National Academy of Sciences and Prof. Giorgio Parisi, President of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
In line with established norms and precautionary measures adopted to address the current epidemiological emergency, the event will be broadcasted live by web – https://www.lincei.it – in English language with simultaneous translation in Italian.

L'Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei est heureuse d'annoncer la tenue de l'événement spécial "Fraternité, écologie intégrale et COVID-19". Le rôle de la diplomatie et de la science" supervisé par S.E. Mgr Paul Richard Gallagher, Secrétaire du Saint-Siège pour les relations avec les États, qui aura lieu le 23 novembre 2020 à 16 heures.
Le monde a été secoué par la crise créée par la pandémie de COVID-19. En cette période difficile, qui continue de changer les sociétés dans lesquelles nous vivons, nous sommes appelés à prendre soin les uns des autres et à éviter de nous refermer sur nous-mêmes. En effet, cette crise met en évidence l'importance des concepts de fraternité et d'écologie intégrale, tous deux décrits dans les deux dernières encycliques du pape François, Fratelli Tutti sur la fraternité et l'amitié sociale, et Laudato sì sur le soin de notre foyer commun. Pour faire face sérieusement aux causes de cette crise, il faudra un véritable changement de cap impliquant toute la société, et en particulier les communautés scientifiques et diplomatiques, dans l'adoption d'une vision intégrale capable de promouvoir un dialogue interdisciplinaire pour favoriser la confiance et développer le bien commun.
La Lectio Magistralis de S.E. Mgr Paul Richard Gallagher sera suivie d'une table ronde, animée par le professeur Wolfango Plastino, président des Colloques sur la diplomatie scientifique, à laquelle participeront le professeur Marcia McNutt, président de l'Académie nationale des sciences des États-Unis, et le professeur Giorgio Parisi, président de l'Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
Conformément aux normes établies et aux mesures de précaution adoptées pour faire face à l'urgence épidémiologique actuelle, l'événement sera diffusé en direct sur le web - https://www.lincei.it - en langue anglaise avec traduction simultanée en italien.
