Le contrôle de la Reproduction des vertébrés est assuré au niveau du cerveau par des hormones hypothalamiques stimulant la libération d’hormones ante-hypophysaires (essentiellement les gonadotropines FSH et LH) qui régulent les activités gamétogénétiques (production des ovocytes et spermatozoïdes) et endocrines (production des hormones sexuelles stéroïdiennes, oestradiol, progestérone,testostérone) des gonades (ovaire, testicule).

Les hormones stéroïdiennes des gonades contrôlent le développement et les caractères sexuels des deux sexes, y compris pour partie leurs comportements. 

Abstract :

     Vertebrate reproduction is controlled in the brain by hypothalamic hormones that stimulate the release of anterior pituitary hormones (primarily the gonadotropins FSH and LH), which regulate the gametogenetic (production of oocytes and sperm) and endocrine (production of steroid sex hormones, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone) activities of the gonads (ovary, testis).

     Gonadal steroid hormones control the development and sexual characteristics of both sexes, including, in part, their behavior.
